Project 365

So January 2021 hit with a huge flop didn’t it? Happy new year…. now homeschool for the foreseeable future. With a calendar full of clients all on postponement and a head full of ideas and plans just bursting to get out to you over at the studio I was bummed out, big time. Lockdown is a hard thing to go through isn’t it? Last year was just one long summer holiday and we all had so much fun and did zero schoolwork but this time had a whole different vibe to it didn’t it. I don’t know about you but I find motherhood hard a lot of the time. I have three kids, two with ASD and severe sensory issues which make just the day to day basics of life catalysts for epic meltdowns just sitting there like little time bombs from all corners of the house, exploding when you least expect it. Combine this with the dreaded homeschooling which by the way the schools took incredibly serious this time round… I found our days were just full of battles and tears and by the end of the day I just felt exhausted and drained. I needed an outlet, something for us to do together that was fun and an activity we looked forward to each day.

Not being able to work really hit me mentally too, I tend to use my creative side to escape the struggles of the day to day and its very much my happy place so when I stumbled across this project in a photography page i’m part of over on Facebook I just knew this was our kind of thing. Project 365 is where you take one image a day 365 days a year, at the end of the year you can create a mini film of your year together and it is just insane the emotions it can give you. So we started our 365 journey back in January and we’re finding our feet and our voice. It has given me focus, there’s only so much you can capture of your kids in your house right? wrong. Every room can look so different depending on the time of day and lighting its been incredibly exciting learning where the sweet spots are at different times of the day plus i’ve even ventured into off camera flash if you would believe! (live-die by natural light girl over here) but needs were a must, dark house, little light in some rooms pushed me to embrace both the dark and the light a flash can bring. I’ve pushed myself creatively with storytelling and colour play and this has all been an amazing bonding activity i’ve enjoyed with the kids. Here’s a few of my highlights over the past couple of months, even now looking back at the images it gives me a happy feeling, seeing all the fun times together and a huge sense of accomplishment I can’t wait to see how emotional I get come December!.
